Member Pastoral Unit (MPU) (Ages 11–25)
Building confidence before taking the next step.
Some young people aren't ready to walk straight into a classroom or group programme—and that's okay.
SEND4's Member Pastoral Unit (MPU) has been created for young people who need additional time, specialist support and a personalised approach to build the confidence and skills needed to move forward. Many of our members have experienced long periods out of education, struggle in group environments, have severe anxiety, low confidence, are selectively mute or have complex mental health needs.
Led by our dedicated MPU Specialist and supported by an experienced Specialist Mentor, every programme is carefully planned around the individual. Progress happens at the young person's pace, with consistent relationships, achievable goals and carefully managed transitions helping them feel safe, settled and ready for the next stage of their journey.
The MPU provides:
- Specialist support for young people with complex needs
- Individualised learning programmes
- 1:1 learning and personalised support
- A calm, structured and low-demand environment
- Support to develop confidence and independence
- Gradual introduction to learning and small groups
- Emotional wellbeing and personalised mentoring
- Flexible timetables tailored to individual needs
- Access to SEND4's specialist facilities and practical learning
- Clear progression pathways into SEND4 programmes, education, college or employment
The goal of the MPU is simple: to help every young person develop the confidence, resilience and skills needed to take their next step—whatever that looks like for them.
